We gave them their money in return for a fabulous week atop rich blue waters under the rejuvenating sunshine. The fortune we paid to board that cruise ship seems so meager now as we scavenge for food and fight to survive. It took one mistake to send us into the devastation we find ourselves in now. And it'd be nice if it at least weren't a mystery as to what this "mistake" was. One moment we were two thousand people sun bathing, swimming, and getting drunk; the next moment there was a horridly loud thud, and alarms were blaring and people were screaming from fright. Hours later, we were only a few hundred people on an island. One complete walk around the island clarified the truth that was hanging over all our heads: we're lost on a random island and completely surrounded by the blue of the ocean. We are stranded in blue. Leftover rations were collected from belongings people managed to save and items washed ashore. The island was explored; it is rich with fruits and wild animals and occasional streams. We could do this, we thought. We can make a living here. We can survive. But we're use to money and getting our way. We don't want to have to get along and let the majority win. Some of us are stingy, others are annoyingly soft. We needed a leader, but too many people declared they'd be best for the position. Others claimed we just needed to "work together" and were shunned for their ignorant way of thinking. Fights broke out, stealing occurred, and it was a while before we realized the fools we were being. We try to get along and be more tolerable of those we dislike, but how long can we continue the charade? When will some of us finally go insane? Will we ever be found within this great mass of blue? |
